The Difference Between Calling and Ambition

Ambition and calling can look identical from the outside — both produce movement, effort, and visible results. The difference is almost never visible in the doing. It shows up in the deciding.

Ambition is fundamentally a private project. It asks: what do I want, and how do I get there. Calling asks a different question entirely: what am I for, and who does this serve.

This is not a call to suspicion toward achievement. Ambition is not sin. But left unexamined, it will quietly redirect a person's gifts toward their own name rather than the purpose those gifts were meant to serve.

A useful test: does this pursuit still make sense if no one ever finds out? Calling tends to survive that question. Ambition rarely does.
